Berlin Experiences Art Revolution:

„Salon de Refusées“ Breaks with Traditions and Celebrates Unheard Female Artists Berlin

November 28, 2023: krautART ARTspace in Berlin launches “Salon de Refusées,” a revolutionary initiative inviting female artists and those identified as female to present their works rejected by established art institutions in the past 18 months. Inspired by the historic “Salon des Refusés” from 1863 in Paris, this event challenges the cycle where past success dictates future opportunities, particularly for women and minorities.

Historical Context:

The original “Salon des Refusés” was a response to the rigid selection criteria of the official Paris Salon and was first held in 1863. It provided a platform for artists rejected by the traditional art world and marked a turning point in art history, showcasing works by later renowned artists such as Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissarro, James Whistler, and Édouard Manet. “Salon de Refusées” continues this spirit of openness and inclusivity, offering a modern stage for voices and visions that otherwise remain unheard.

Objective and Significance:

“Salon de Refusées” symbolizes inclusivity in the art world. It dedicates itself to acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of women and female-identified artists, traditionally underrepresented in the art scene. The event offers a platform to increase the visibility and recognition of these artists. Submission Process and Selection: Applications are accepted until December 13, 2023. The goal is to exhibit at least one work from each applicant, but a curatorial selection may become necessary due to space limitations. Artists requiring technology for their presentations must provide it themselves.

Event Details:

The vernissage is set for February 29, 2024, followed by weekly artist talks, culminating in a finissage on March 28, 2024. All submitted works will be carefully considered for display in krautART ARTspace and on social media.

Additional Information:

krautART ARTspace offers a platform in the heart of Berlin to make unrecognized art accessible to a broader audience. This opportunity not only allows for public presentation of art but also facilitates networking and the promotion of artistic diversity and resilience. The space welcomes international applications and invites artists worldwide to participate.
